One of his baptismal sponsors was Johann George SCHMIT.
It is possible that he might have been born in Pennsylvania. He was usually called George but also John, which makes research slightly more confusing. He and/or his family moved to Madison County, OHIO, then on to Nebraska. Terry Graham says that after his death, his children sold 3 acres of land in Ohio that belonged to him. it is not known whether he actually lived there or just owned land. The land was sold to his daughter Susannah's husband, Martin Overpeck (Orebaugh).
All of his children's names came from the Orebaugh group sheets, which I have subsequently lost.
